HARDBAKKA RUINS PROJECT

Hardbakka Ruins Project 2014 // Dissensus
Since the 1990s there has been a considerable push in art practice towards socially-engaged, participatory methods. Instead of removing art from the ‘useless’ domain of aesthetics and relocating it into praxis or politics, this year’s Hardbakka project aims to think about art as existing in an ambiguous territory that deals with complex social concerns like political engagement, affect, inequality, class, narcissism, and social norms.
While Dissensus can partly be considered the opposite of consensus - which is central to much recent participatory art practice and traditional representative politics alike - it is primarily about destabilizing fixed ideas of community and common space.
Dissensus is the guiding theme for proposals that interact and conflict with the spatial narrative of the Hardbakka ruin complex : its history, memory, and place in the wider communal narrative.
Open to students and professionals in art, architecture and landscape architecture.
